It can’t be true. Incredulous workers in their protective clothes and helmets are looking at each other and swearing. The Kurakhivska thermal plant in Eastern Ukrainian Donbas is shaking and the outer walls are heard collapsing. Russian rocket strikes are destroying Ukraine’s essential resources. It’s a matter of life and death: Russia wants to freeze Ukrainians to death by destroying thermal power plants.

The Kurakhivska power plant caught the interest of Kyivan director Anton Shtuka, when its workers started to acquire legendary status. Even though Russia hit the plant every night, the staff refused to leave their workplace.

Shtuka decided to go and make a film on location. Soon the subject expanded from the rough fate of the plant to the experiences of the workers. The stories and stunned expressions of several people allow the viewer to grasp at least a tiny bit of what it feels like to be under attack, and how all of them understand that their lives might come to an end much more probably than to peace and happiness.
